The Miracle in the Mundane

The size of your oil is less important than the size of your obedience.

The Miracle in the Mundane
"And Elisha said to her, ‘What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?’ And she said, ‘Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.’ Then he said, ‘Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels—and not a few.’” — 2 Kings 4:2–3 (NKJV)

A widow, two sons, and a single jar of cooking oil—hardly the recipe for a miracle. Yet in Elisha’s hands the ordinary became overflow. God loves to place His supernatural inside our seemingly small.

Reflect on the Verse

God didn’t ask what she lacked; He asked what she had. Miracles begin with inventory, not inadequacy. The size of your oil is less important than the size of your obedience.

Practical Application

  1. Empty the Cupboard
List every “jar” you do have—time, talent, ten dollars. Offer it to God before complaining about what you don’t.
  2. Borrow the Empty
Gather “vessels” of faith—quiet moments, Scripture promises, supportive friends. More room = more miracle.
  3. Pour Until It Runs
Start using what you’ve offered. The oil multiplied in motion, not in storage. Serve, give, create—miracles follow movement.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the oil already in my house. Teach me to pour it out in faith, trusting You to turn the mundane into the miraculous. Amen. 🛢️✨

Reflection

What ordinary “jar” can you place in God’s hands today? Write it, offer it, step back, and watch the overflow begin.

Pray. Believe. Receive.
Where small jars meet endless oil.
